Hi, welcome to my site and here's a little about me:
"An outstanding professional who always puts the student at the heart of everything she does! Karen is a great asset to our team. A highly regarded teacher and assessor."
"Without the care and consideration the Karen gives to my son when she tutors him, he would not have achieved as much as he has done recently. I wish I'd found her sooner!"
"Karen is a highly qualified assessor and specialist teacher. She has acted as my mentor for the last two years and has greatly motivated me throughout my studies. She is kind, patient and approachable and really knows her stuff!"
"I needed a DSA assessment quickly and Karen was able to accommodate my needs. I was diagnosed as dyslexic as a child but the report was out of date. Karen assessed me and produced another report - a Top Up report - to add to my original documents. Without her help I wouldn't have been able to access support at university."
Some of the lovely things that my manager, colleagues, students and parents have said about me. I really appreciate their comments! Follow me on Facebook to read more of my reviews, like and share my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/kpollardrylance/
So, my teaching career started within the Post 16 sector in 1998. Having worked in the catering management industry since 1989, I completed my PGCE in Further & Higher Education, and upon successful accreditation, commenced my teaching journey: lecturing on numerous Catering & Hospitality courses in various Further Education Colleges within the North West.
From here, with the development of the Basic Skills Agency in 2000, I retrained into teaching Basic Skills Literacy and Numeracy. In 2002, I became an Additional Learning Support Specialist, teaching and co-ordinating the learning support needs of a variety of mixed ability students, from 14 years of age.
In 2006, I enhanced my career in the field of Specific Learning Differences: Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ASD, ADHD, ADD, Irlen & Dyscalculia.
In 2012, I gained my Level 7 qualification in SpLD/Dyslexia FE/HE APC & TPC qualification and in 2014 my Masters (MA) in SpLD/Dyslexia FE/HE, both through the Manchester Metropolitan University: whilst working full time at Salford City College, as a Specialist Teacher and Assessor of Dyslexia/SpLD & Irlen.
I have AMBDA, APC, TPC, ADSHE and PATOSS registration/professional status: PATOSS IF6114 and I still continue to work at Salford City College on a part-time basis, within the SpLD/Dyslexia Assessment and Specialist Teaching team.
In addition, I have continued to work on a freelance, professional basis to provide dyslexia/specific learning difference diagnostic assessments and multi-sensory tuition to client's of all ages: from primary years through to adults within higher education and employment.
I constantly update my professional practice through the British Dyslexia Association (BDA), the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS), the Association of Specialist Teachers HE (ADSHE) and the International Irlen Institute: the organisations that I am affiliated with.
I strongly believe that all people have the ability to learn and excel: we just need to find the key to that success and unlock it forever!
I do hope that you find this site informative. I strive to constantly update and improve it. Please do not hesitate to contact me on the Contact page tab above, or via www.facebook.com/kpollardrylance/
